Healthy School improvement - Best practices

  • Support teaching approaches to fully engage all pupils

  • Activities are carefully chosen to ensure a balance between building knowledge, practising, skills and developing positive attributes

  • Participate in school-wide discussions exploring wellbeing guidance embedded in the school aims and ethos

  • Support the whole school approach by providing a broad range of opportunities within and outside the curriculum to learn about all food and healthy eating (including the social and emotional aspects such as food and body image and the role of media), develop practical skills and make healthy choices. It includes a strong focus on families e.g. parent/carer/child cooking classes etc.

Staff Wellbeing training

PSHE lesson plan support

For example, a PSHE outcome for Primary is for pupils to know:

  • what constitutes a healthy diet (including understanding calories and other nutritional content)

  • the principles of planning and preparing a range of healthy meals

  • the characteristics of a poor diet

  • risks associated with unhealthy eating (including, for example, obesity and tooth decay) and other behaviours (e.g. the impact of alcohol on diet or health)

Teacher support includes how to create and deliver engaging, high-quality content lesson plans.
